A “hard” education
Born on November 14, 1948 in London, little Charles grew up in the gardens of Buckingham Palace, where he was prepared from an early age for the succession to the British throne.
Raised by governess Catherine Peebles from the age of 5 to 8, the young prince cut his teeth at Hill House School in London and Cheam Preparatory School in Berkshire.
Sent to the Gordonstoun boarding school in Scotland, the heir would have lived his high school years very badly – evidenced by an episode of
The Crown
abhorred by Elizabeth II, in which Prince Philip advocates a “rough” education.
On July 1, 1969, it was during a very solemn ceremony that Charles received the title of Prince of Wales.
Renaissance
On July 29, 1981, the future King of England married the young Diana Frances Spencer.
From his union with Diana, two sons were born: William, in 1982, and Harry, in 1984. But the marriage turned into a fiasco after the revelation of his affair with Camilla Parker Bowles in the columns of People magazine, in June 1992.
The
couple ends his union the same year.
Four years later, on August 31, 1997, Lady Di lost her life in a road accident in Paris.
