(ANSA) - ROME, MAY 07 - Choosing on impulse, not to go on vacation to Japan, but to leave for Korea, the country where her biological parents gave her up for adoption when she was a baby, and which she left with his French adoptive parents.
It is the protagonist's decision, in a powerful coming-of-age story, pain, discoveries and youthful anger, inspired by a true story: Return to Seoul by the French/Cambodian director Davy Chou, who after his debut last year in Cannes (where this year the filmmaker returns as a member of the jury of the Un certain Regard section), was Cambodia's candidate for the Oscar for best international film and will be released on May 11 with I Wonder Pictures in collaboration with Mubi.
A story that arises from the real experience of Laure Badufle, a Korean artist adopted in France, a friend of Chou, who happened to witness the meeting of the young woman (here also co-author of the screenplay) with her biological father a few years ago, during a trip to Korea .
"It's something that touched me deeply - the director, born in 1983, explains to ANSA -. I was so moved, I felt what Laure was feeling and I found everything surprising and also different from what I would have expected. I thought there would be more tears, more stories to sharing, instead it was all very sober, there was a sense of the absurd".
It was "a complex and surprising reality and I felt an instinctive attraction to that story".

She manages to meet her father (OhKwang-Rok), unable to control her sense of guilt for her abandoned daughter but not her mother, determined to refuse any contact with the girl.
