Whether in pasta sauce, as a sandwich topping or to eat pure: there is the right tomato for every use. The cultivation of tomatoes is considered to be a bit more demanding, pre-growing, watering or pricking needs to be practiced. However, the following varieties are relatively easy to care for and also very diverse:

- Cherry tomatoes: Small, with a concentrated aroma - cherry tomatoes can be eaten pure and convince with a rich yield. In addition, they are usually the first to be ready for harvest in summer.
- Oxheart tomato: Due to their considerable size (it is not uncommon for them to be the size of a hand), oxheart tomatoes are ideal for slicing, for example for carpaccio or as a sandwich topping. They have slightly less aroma than their smaller relatives. The harvest of this tomato extends into October.
- Romatomato: Also known as plum tomato, the variety scores with its low core content and full aroma. They are ideal for canning, sauces, ketchup or salads. Ideally, grow Roma tomatoes on a trellis frame, as they support the high-yielding plants.
- Old tomato varieties: "San Marzano", "Black Krim", "Berner Rose" or "Riesentraube" - the varieties have in common that they all have a typical, sweet tomato aroma. The disadvantage, however, is that these old varieties of tomatoes are often less resistant to diseases than new breeds.
By the way, if, despite the correct method of cultivation, the tomatoes do not taste aromatic, then the salting method can help.
