They will install 10 eco domes in the Valley of the Moon of San Juan

Highlights: 10 domes are under construction in the Ischigualasto Provincial Park of San Juan, Argentina. The domes will be part of the Glampìng Eco Dome, with a total investment of 98 million pesos. They will have 55 square meters covered, plus a garage and a pergola that add another 20 square meters to the construction. They are designed with high-end visitors in mind, and will be able to see the night sky through the windows.


Specially designed for sky observation, they will follow global standards for environmental protection.


In the Ischigualasto Provincial Park of San Juan, also known as Valley of the Moon, 10 domes are under construction that will be part of the Glampìng Eco Dome, with financing from the 50 Destinations Program of the Ministry of Tourism and Sports, and which will mean a total investment of 98 million pesos.

This was detailed by the director of Public Works of the Ministry of Infrastructure of San Juan, Miguel Angel Toro, who explained that the domes "already have 75 percent progress in work" and that "they will have 55 square meters covered, plus a garage and a pergola that add another 20 square meters to the construction. "

The Eco Glamping is installed in what is known as the "buffer zone" of the Ischigualasto Park, between the Heritage Area, where the discoveries are located, and the administration and services area, located at the entrance to the place.

Glazed walls and care for the environment

According to the official in charge of the construction, "semi-domes were made with wooden structure and with a high percentage of glazed walls, so that their occupants have the experience of interacting with nature during their stay."

He added that "they are habitaciones with furniture and with a service area attached to the dome, which is a metal structure and fiber cement closures, which also has a bathroom, antebath, a minibar and a bacha".

As highlighted, the domes have an important thermal and acoustic insulation and have installed air conditioning equipment, in addition to being designed with high-end tourism that visits the place in mind; many of the visitors, foreigners.

From the Ministry of Tourism, which will tender the complex to be operated by a private company, they said that "this project that is underway has unparalleled characteristics for its natural and scientific particularity, and for the incorporation of Astronomical Tourism as an important part of the offer".

The specialists assure that "during the day visitors will be able to interact with guanacos and ostriches that inhabit the area", and that at night, "they will be able to appreciate through the windows a sky without interference" using telescopic equipment that will be installed.

It was also indicated that "50 percent of the domes will be accessible, providing the necessary conditions for the enjoyment and comfort of people with reduced mobility."

Likewise, "the Eco Domes will be aligned with the world standards of environmental protection and the protection of the night sky, implementing hybrid and inverted solar luminaires".

This type of accommodation encompassed in the concept of "glamping", in sustainable and environmentally friendly ecodomes, is a global trend that is strong in our country, especially in spaces highlighted by their natural beauty and the importance of nature.

Argentina already has similar accommodations in several destinations, such as El Chaltén, in Santa Cruz, the valleys of Calamuchita and Punilla, in Córdoba, the Salinas Grandes de Jujuy and even in the province of Buenos Aires, with facilities in both Chascomús and Cañuelas, among other places.

Now the Valley of the Moon of San Juan will be added to the list, an impressive destination that together with the neighboring Talampaya National Park was declared a World Heritage Site by Unesco.
