Every now and then, the requirements for applications change: What should not be missing under any circumstances and what you should avoid when applying for a student internship.
In the course of their school years, many students do internships - often a few weeks in the ninth or eleventh grade are allotted for this purpose. Applications must also be written for this short taste of a profession. What should be taken into account.

A student internship is often an integral part of the school career. The duration is specified, the procedure is outlined and a visit by the teacher to the internship company is firmly planned. Following the internship, a report is written, in which, among other things, the student's experiences are recorded. Students look for the internship on their own.
Most of the time, the topic of writing applications comes up in class, so students already have a first reference to how the application should be structured.
When looking for a job, it is advisable to call different companies. Often, student internships are not advertised directly, but are still offered.

Application for a student internship: cover letter, curriculum vitae, certificate
- Cover letter
- Curriculum vitae in tabular form
- Testimony
An application for a student internship is often not as extensive as for an apprenticeship, but the basics should still be right. A cover letter, a curriculum vitae and the last current certificate should be prepared in any case. An application photo, on the other hand, is optional. If you have another important piece of evidence that can help you stand out from other applicants, you can also attach it. This can be, for example, a special language certificate or a youth leader certificate.

Application by e-mail or in the application folder? It's worth asking
More and more is happening online, so ask whether you would like an application folder or an application by e-mail.
Applying with an application portfolio
If the application is sent by post, an application folder is required. The cover letter is loosely on top, informs the portal Karrierebibel.de. On the other hand, the following pages are stapled: a cover page, the curriculum vitae, the certificate, possible further certificates.
Attention: Never send certificates or other certificates in the original.
Apply by e-mail
If an application by e-mail is sufficient, the cover letter can be written in the text field of the e-mail, reports the portal Bewerbung-tipps.de. In a file as a PDF, the cover letter, the curriculum vitae, the certificate and any other certificates are added to the application.
Cover letter by e-mail
The basic text of the cover letter can be inserted into the text field. It is important that basic things are clear, including the length of the internship and the desired period. When salutating, it is advisable to find out in advance who is responsible for applications, then this person can be addressed directly - this is more personal and shows that you have already dealt with the company.
- Salutation
- Introduction: Information on motivation and suitability
- Main part: Why the company and the field of activity, two to three paragraphs
- Conclusion: One sentence, greeting
- Signature
- Grounds
Curriculum vitae: Structure for a student internship
In the case of students, the curriculum vitae is still quite short, as sections such as education or professional career are not yet available. In most cases, a curriculum vitae in tabular form is required, which should comprise one page. The aim is to ensure that the various stations are presented clearly.
- Heading: Curriculum Vitae
- Personal data: name, address, contact details, date and place of birth
- School history: On the left the period is noted (month and year), on the right the name of the school, the order can be antichronological or chronological
- Internships: If any have already been completed
- Holiday jobs: Optional
- Extracurricular involvement: For example, membership in an association
- Special knowledge: Language or computer skills are often described here
- Place, date and signature
Hobbies can be mentioned as an option – in professional life, hobbies are currently usually not specified in the CV, as these are usually not relevant to the job.
