Recall due to listeria – dangerous pathogens found in vegan cheese

A manufacturer is recalling its vegan cheese alternative because of listeria. The pathogens often occur in animal products. However, vegans should also be careful:

Once again, consumers need to protect themselves from a dangerous Listeria infection. For their protection, a recall for vegan cheese is now being issued as a precautionary measure. Again and again, the pathogens are discovered in food. In this case, affected products must be withdrawn from circulation quickly – with good reason: Listeria can cause serious listeriosis.

Listeria in vegan cheese – pathogens can cause serious illnesses

Vegan substitutes for cheese, meat and the like have become increasingly popular in recent years. Whether for reasons of environmental protection or health, as more and more people are switching to the alternatives, the choice is also increasing. From an expensive niche product, vegan substitute foods are becoming a blockbuster. Cheese has recently become cheaper again at the discounters Lidl, Kaufland and Aldi.

But as with conventional cheese, there are more and more recalls of vegan alternatives. Happy Cheeze GmbH is now informing about a recall of its Camembert alternatives. In a standard sample, some products were found to be contaminated with listeria. The affected products:

• Dr. Mannah's Happy White with Green Pepper, Best before June 10, 2023, batch number 152311

Pathogens in vegan cheese - listeriosis threatens vomiting and diarrhea

Consumers are urged not to consume vegan cheese. You can return the product without a receipt to the respective points of sale. Other items from the affected batch were immediately withdrawn from sale. Happy Cheeze regrets the incident and apologizes to customers for the inconvenience caused.

Listeria enters the body through food and can cause listeriosis. This manifests itself, among other things, by fever, vomiting and diarrhea. In severe cases, the disease can even lead to death. Again and again there are recalls because of listeria, as was the case a few weeks ago, when Kaufland warned against a conventional cheese because of contamination. (paw)
