Sleep experts say adults should aim for seven to nine hours of sleep a night, but it's not always easy for everyone.

The U.S. Army recently unveiled an ingenious trick the military uses to fall asleep quickly and smoothly, which they claim works on almost everyone. The military technique is so successful that it is said to work even in stressful work environments and at a high pace – which is why it is used by the military for soldiers who need to sleep when they are in war zones or other dangerous places.

The technique is explained in the 1981 book Relax and Win: Championship Performance and is being revived on social media.

So how does it work?

The principle is relaxation of the body from the top - the head to the tips of the toes.

Start by relaxing the muscles of the face, tongue, jaw, and muscles around the eyes. Then, lower your shoulders as far down as possible, then do the same with your upper and lower arms, one side at a time. Finally, exhale and lower the chest, then descend down to the legs, starting from the thighs and all the way down to the toes.

Apparently, after six weeks of practice, it works for 96% of people who try the technique, which has already reached social media and is doing well there.

"It definitely works"

Metro reported that one TikTok user said: "I was in the army and I was taught this. I also had a longtime teacher as a college psychology teacher who taught it. It definitely works."

Another said: "My doctor taught me this technique with slight changes when I was suffering from insomnia due to PTSD. Believe me it works 100% once you do it."

Twitter user @Jontafkasi even said it cured his four decades of insomnia. "Hmm, maybe it's a little early to get excited but after 40 years of insomnia, I slept half well last night... I'll be impressed (and a little annoyed) if it's such a simple method and more of the military. I never have trouble going to sleep but usually wake up in the early hours and then I struggle to get back to sleep. Normally at that point I would turn over for ages, but this technique stopped all that and allowed me to go back to sleep pretty quickly."
