"We need to work for supply chain agreements between agricultural and industrial companies to guarantee fair prices and a fairer distribution of value to protect farmers' consumers against unfair practices. This is what Coldiretti says at the meeting of the Rapid Alert Commission on expensive pasta convened by the Minister of Enterprises and Made in Italy Adolfo Urso in specifying that the need to "support in the National Recovery and Resilience Plan the agri-food sector where projects from pasta to meat, from milk to oil, from fruit to vegetables were presented with more than 50 proposals and thousands of farmers, breeders, processing companies, universities and research centers involved".
A commitment - says Coldiretti in a note - that also for pasta would be a guarantee of stability and fairness of prices along the supply chain, but which would also ensure greater food safety for consumers. In January 2023, compared to the same period last year - according to the analysis of Coldiretti on Istat data - imports into Italy of durum wheat from Canada increased sixfold where glyphosate is used in pre-harvest as a desiccant in ways prohibited in Italy.
"An unfair competition against our farmers but also - adds the agricultural organization - a concern for health from which citizens can defend themselves by choosing packages with 100% Italian product, thanks to the battle of Coldiretti on the obligation of indication of origin on the label. It is therefore strategic - Coldiretti specifies - to restart the single national commission (CUN) for the indicative price in Italy of durum wheat as also supported by the Minister of Agriculture and Food Sovereignty Francesco Lollobrigida.
