The next generation

Madame Figaro. - How do you feel about climbing the steps of the Palais des Festivals, as part of the Canneséries event?
Mónica Cruz. - I am very happy to be here in Cannes. This is my third time. It is a real gift to present our series One, back, tres: New generation during this Festival. I'm delighted to be here with the whole team.

It's been 18 years since the series Un, dos, tres stopped. What made you want to reprise the role of Silvia?
For me, it's incredible, because Un, dos, tres changed my life, just like Silvia's character. It's superb, because these things normally only happen once in a lifetime, if ever. That it happens once, it's already amazing, so two is great. I see this with little girl's eyes.

Can you tell us about the evolution of Silvia's character? Silvia has evolved a lot in 20 years. In the rest of the series, Silvia has much more responsibility. She is the school's principal and ballet teacher. And for me, taking over from Carmen Arranz is an honor. As a principal and teacher, Silvia puts her students on the map. I'm very happy to play this character again.

A "little family"

How was the reunion with the original cast?
With Bea (Beatriz Luengo, who plays Lola, editor's note) and Miguel Angel Muñoz (Roberto's interpreter), we kept in touch all these years. It's as if nothing has changed. We are like three brothers and sisters, a little family. It's very easy to tour together. We do the same stupid things as when we were young, although time flies very quickly. We are the same as we were 20 years ago, but in the meantime we have had children.

Mónica Cruz

What is your best memory of filming?
For me, the whole shoot was amazing. But the most extraordinary thing was the first sequence. 20 years ago, I toured with Lola Herrera, who plays Carmen Arranz, and I hadn't played in anything else before. It was a duet scene. I told myself that I would learn from her, absorb everything like a sponge, and it went very well. In the rest of the series, when Carmen Arranz returns, almost 20 years later, I also shoot with Lola Herrera, and it's also a duet scene. It's like we've come full circle. I'd like to be like her when I'm older.

What can you tell us about these new episodes?
All I can say about this new stage is that there is a fusion between the three of us (Beatriz Luengo, Miguel Angel Muñoz and Mónica Cruz, editor's note) that is great. There are new characters with incredible talent, who are young, who dance with all the strength of their 20s. This fusion between all these new and old characters, it makes the series extraordinary. And I think the audience will love it and a lot of things will surprise them.
