Stones were found in the packaging of cloves. Consumption is therefore strongly discouraged. The Federal Office of Consumer Protection and Food Safety has issued a food warning for the cloves that can be bought at Edeka.
Recall at Edeka: Stones found in cloves - do not consume spice
The consumption of the cloves can lead to health problems such as injuries to the mouth and throat as well as tooth damage, according to the company. Foreign bodies in food can also cause internal injuries or bleeding, warns the consumer portal produktwarnung.eu.
The company. Dr. Esswein & Co. GmbH is therefore recalling the goods as a precautionary measure in order to avert a possible health hazard for customers. Consumers should check the stocks in their household. According to the manufacturer, the products affected by the recall have a best-before date (BBD) of December 13, 2025, December 28, 2025 or January 02, 2026. Other products are not affected by the recall.

Clove recall: Consumers can return spice
The cloves affected by the recall could be bought as a spice in Edeka stores in Baden-Württemberg, Bavaria, Hesse, Rhineland-Palatinate and Saarland. Consumers who still find products with the mentioned best-before date in their household can return them to Edeka.
