(ANSA) - BRUSSELS, 13 MAY - "Military spending last year in the EU rose again. The increase is 30% higher than ten years ago and in Asia the trend of increasing spending is even stronger, 40% more than ten years ago.
This shows that we live in an increasingly insecure world." This was stated by the EU High Representative for Foreign Policy JosepBorrell speaking at the Forum between the EU and the Indo-Pacific held in Sweden and which sees the presence, in addition to the 27 European member countries, of Japan, India, Indonesia but also Maldives, Fiji, Sri Lanka.
"We must invest in our security and prosperity. The war in Ukraine is not just a European affair, it brings into play principles that affect everyone and has global consequences, such as those in the energy sector. The European strategy on the Indo-Pacific is not just about rhetoric, but about concrete things. The convergence of interests is the surest way to have good relations", Borrell explained, stressing that a "safe and stable" Indo-Pacific area is also a goal of the EU. (ANSA).
