Bungee fitness, the discipline that muscles in depth thanks to weightlessness

Highlights: Bungee fitness (also called bungee workout or bungee dance) is practiced in a room equipped with strong elastics hanging from the ceiling. Participants put on a harness, to which they attach in the back an elastic adapted to their weight, their height, their level of training. The feet remain on the ground, but the elastic is stretched, creating a form of weightlessness. The presence of the elastic makes it possible to jump from one posture to another, and requires to constantly sheathe all the deep muscles.

Ideal for joints

The elastic facilitates certain movements: we go from the standing position to a plank position on the ground without feeling its weight, and we jump up like a spring. This is fun and especially interesting for fragile joints. The ankles and knees are indeed protected, since impacts to the ground are lightened. Other movements involve resistance work against the elastic, especially when you try to run: there, you solicit all your muscles, especially your abdominal belt, very intensely.

Sport for all

Bungee fitness is well suited for beginners, since the elastic makes certain movements easier. But it also allows those who are in good physical condition to push the heart rate work a little further: the elastic makes it possible to gain speed to chain movements, such as jumped lunges or burpees. The important thing is to find a course at your level, a coach who listens, and to take the time to master the specific gestures related to the presence of the elastic.

The bonus of letting go

Amidou Doumbia is responsible for fitness at the Magic Form room in Paris. He has been teaching bungee fitness for four years. According to him, it is also a great exercise in letting go. "When people discover the discipline, there is a lot of apprehension," he says. They are afraid to jump forward, to put head first... At one point, there is a click: they let go. And there, we have a lot of fun! The atmosphere of the classes is funny, the elastic brings a touch of fun: if you are not well sheathed, the elastic does what it wants from you. "

It remains to be well equipped for the session. We prefer tight T-shirts, or even bodysuits, because the harness tends to go up with the elastic and friction can be unpleasant. Ditto for the bottom, including for men: beginners will even put a bike cyclist, reinforced at the crotch, to avoid discomfort related to the harness. A pair of sneakers, and let's go!
