Green light from the EU Council to Di Maio sent to the Gulf

The green light, as on the previous two occasions - at the meeting of the Political and Security Committee and that of the Permanent Representatives of the 27 in the EU - came without any of those present interrupting the procedure to call the debate.

Final green light to the proposal of the EU High Representative for Foreign Policy Josep Borrell to appoint Luigi Di Maio as EU special envoy in the Gulf. The point, it is learned, was approved without discussion in the early stages of the Sports Affairs Council, underway in Brussels.

The green light arrived this morning concludes the procedure for the appointment of the former Italian Foreign Minister after the indication arrived from the High Representative last April 21. The green light, as on the previous two occasions - at the meeting of the Political and Security Committee and that of the Permanent Representatives of the 27 in the EU - came without any of those present interrupting the procedure to call the debate. As usual, the final ok of the EU Council to the first available ministerial meeting was expected. And today, in Brussels, the EU Council on Sport is meeting. With the formal green light, Di Maio will take office as EU Special Representative in the Gulf on June 1.
