"Homophobia, biphobia and transphobia constitute an unbearable social scourge still present and cause of unacceptable discrimination and violence, in some areas of the world even legitimized by rules that trample on the rights of the person". This was written by the President of the Republic, Sergio Mattarella on the occasion of the International Day against Homophobia, Transphobia and Biphobia.

"Since 2007, when the European Parliament established the International Day against Homophobia and Transphobia - underlines the Head of State - the sensitivity of the collective conscience towards these issues has been accentuated. The action to combat the numerous episodes of violence that the news continues to record cannot cease".

"Against manifestations of intolerance, dictated by the lack of recognition of the value of each person - he adds - a unanimous response of condemnation must come. It is the task of institutions to develop effective prevention strategies that educate to respect diversity and to inclusion. Abuses, violence, intolerance, trample on the Charter of Fundamental Rights of the European Union and our Constitution which precisely in Article 3 recognizes equal social dignity, without distinction of sex, of all citizens, guaranteeing the full development of the human person".
