"We think that fashion will do very well in 2023": the president of the National Chamber of Italian Fashion Carlo Capasa starts from the numbers, which have exceeded all expectations, "with an initial increase in turnover in the first quarter of 2023 of 15.3%", to present the next Milan Men's fashion week, scheduled from 16 to 20 June, with important returns and debuts.
Already 72 appointments on the calendar, opened by the return to the catwalk of the man Valentino, on June 16 at the Statale, and closed on the 19th by the Zegna fashion show. But many - reports Capasa presenting the event, realized with ICE, Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Municipality of Milan - are adding to the week, where 22 physical fashion shows are planned, including the rentrée of Neil Barrett and the first time of Andersson Bell. A sign of the vitality of a sector that - says Matteo Zoppas, president of ICE - exports for 80 billion a year, of which 6 only for menswear: "all positive and growing numbers". "Even tourism - adds the Milanese councilor for productive activities Alessia Cappello - has started again with record numbers", and now that the pandemic is over, the Asian world is back.
Going into detail, "the first months of the year were with a more very relevant sign, we thought we would face a difficult 2023 but for now - explains Capasa - it did not happen, on the contrary, we recorded an initial increase in the quarter of 15.3%, so much so that the annual forecast was 4% and we moved it to 5%". If turnover grows according to forecasts, "we will exceed 100 billion going to over 103 billion.
We will increase exports from 86 to 92 billion, confirming Italian fashion as the queen of our exports". The growth was 9% in the industrial chain "because it partly passed on the increase in energy costs on products, in retail the growth at 3% in January and February absorbed part of the increases in raw materials, against a general inflation of 8.5%". "Overall, exports in 2022 were excellent, 16.9% for core sectors and 20.5% for connected sectors, with a boom in the United States. Now China is growing and pulling, making a great contribution to the numbers, so - underlines Capasa - we believe that the estimates are realistic and we think that fashion will do very well in 2023".
With these premises, together with the week dedicated to men's proposals for spring summer 2024, the Fashion Film Festival also returns, scheduled from 12 to 19 June. For the ninth edition - announces the founder Constanza Cavalli Etro - the exhibition will land in the metaverse. And not only that: it will also launch "the first streaming platform of fashion films in the world" which at the beginning will host 274 fashion films, from small brands to established brands.
