Casper Ruud reached the semifinals of the Rome tournament by beating Francisco Cerundolin straight sets or 7-6, 6-4. On Saturday Ruud will face Holger Runand that eliminated Novak Djokovic.
On the women's side, Poland's world No. 1 Iga Swiatek withdrew, visibly sore in her right knee, during the third set of her quarter-final match against Kazakh Elena Rybakina (No. 6). Swiatek won the first set 6-2 and lost the second 6-7 (3/7). At the time of his retirement it was 2-2.
