Higher poverty line with more family members
If several people live together in one household, the poverty line also rises. For example, for a single parent with a child under the age of 14, it has a net income of 1,492 euros. A couple who do not have children is considered poor as soon as the joint monthly net income is 1,721 euros or less.
For a single parent with two children under the age of 14, the poverty line rises to 1,836 euros net income per month. If a second adult and a second child under the age of 14 are added, it is 2,410 euros. As soon as the children are over 14 years old, the calculation changes, as they could theoretically already earn money. For a couple with two children over the age of 14, the limit is a monthly net income of 2,869 euros. It is highest in a couple with two children over the age of 14 and one child who is younger.
