Ambush in Foggia, historic boss killed with two shots

Two shots, in the face and chest, fired at close range. Salvatore Prencipe, 59 years old, historical boss of the 'company' between the late 90s and early 2000s, was killed like this. Excellent name of the Foggia mafia because it is considered a leading exponent of the Trisciuoglio-Prencipe-Tolonese clan. The ambush took place last night around 21 pm in Viale Kennedy on the outskirts of the Daunian capital, not far from the police station.
Prencipe had recently left home, where he lived with his elderly mother. He was alone, stopped in the car. It seems he was waiting for a relative when suddenly a hitman reached him on foot. His face was covered. He fired a first shot, smashing the windshield and hitting the boss in the chest. Then a second shot, the coup de grace, straight to the face. Soon after, the hitman ran away. Waiting for him a few tens of meters away is an accomplice driving a Fiat Grande Punto. The car used for the escape was found last night charred in via Sprecacenere, on the outskirts of Foggia. The alarm to the 118 operators was given by some residents of the area. The same ones who witnessed the ambush. Their testimony was fundamental for the men of the mobile squad to reconstruct the exact dynamics of the murder. During the night, the police carried out a dozen searches and stubs. Investigations carried out - says those who investigate - against offenders belonging to rival criminal batteries: that of the Moretti-Pellegrino-Lanza and that of the Sinesi-Francavilla. Investigators are also reviewing footage from security cameras along the two hitmen's escape route.
It is investigated to trace the motive.
Salvatore Prencipe had been free since 2015, after serving his sentence for mafia association, trafficking and drug dealing. He was involved in two important blitzes against the Foggia mafia such as Double Edge (2002) and Poseidon (2004). For the investigators, the old boss in recent years had distanced himself from the circles of organized crime. Prencipe miraculously escaped an ambush on September 21, 1999. The man was stopped in front of a bar in Via Fania when two killers on a motorcycle shot madly at Prencipe and two other mafiosi from Foggia. The three were unharmed while a stray bullet killed Matteo Di Candia, 62, a pensioner who at that time was in the club to celebrate his name day.
