The businessman Antonio Néstor Cabrales, owner of the traditional coffee company of Marplatense origin that bears his surname and one of the sons of the founder, Antonio Cabrales Vega, died this Saturday in that Buenos Aires city at the age of 85.

"Quique" Cabrales, as he was known in the business environment and in the community of Mar del Plata, was one of those who remained at the head of the firm in the 70s, when his father, Antonio Cabrales Vega, was transferring the labor post and left the place to his three descendants: Jorge, who died at the end of March at age 83, José Manuel and Antonio.

The renowned coffee company was founded in 1941 and already during 1965, Antonio's children saw the need to begin expanding the facilities of the original premises. To expand commercially they bought a larger land, in which they first built a warehouse and then installed modern machinery.

Later the brothers were responsible for extending the company to a larger scale, until gradually achieving a well-deserved recognition, both nationally and internationally.

He is currently in charge of the third generation of Cabrales, made up of his three sons, Martín, Germán and Marcos, who continue the legacy of their father Quique and grandfather Antonio.

Antonio Néstor Cabrales, Illustrious Citizen of Mar del Plata

In 2018, Antonio Néstor Cabrales was declared Illustrious Citizen of Mar del Plata, joining a select list of personalities born in the city, such as Astor Piazzola, Guillermo Vilas and Victoria Ocampo.

The mayor of General Pueyrredón, Guillermo Montenegro, posted on his Twitter account: "With great sadness today we say goodbye to Quique Cabrales. I want to send a big hug to Coca (his wife) and their three children. We're going to miss you!"

The Diocese of Mar del Plata also mourned his death. "Cabrales will be remembered in the diocese as one of the great collaborators in all ecclesial initiatives, being also an active participant and consultant of the different bishops of the diocese in recent years," the bishopric of that city published.

In addition, he recalled that the businessman participated in the Council of Economic Affairs of the bishops Rómulo García, José María Arancedo, Juan Alberto Puiggari, Antonio Marino and, lately, with Gabriel Mestre. "Quique's passage through our lives leaves us a light that is an example of service and love for the city," he added.

"We ask and pray to God to embrace Quique with his peace and cover him with his love, we also pray for the Christian consolation of the Cabrales family who will continue his legacy of work for the good of the community," the post added.

The remains of Antonio Cabrales were veiled in a garage on Avenida 3 de Febrero at 3600 Mar del Plata and will be buried tomorrow in a private cemetery.
