Guillaume Canet, who came to present at the Cannes Film Festival Acide, an ecological thriller classified out of competition by Just Philippot, gave himself extensively in a lengthy interview with the Journal du Dimanche. A film that combines, in the actor's own words, "intimate story" and "disaster film" in which he plays the main role.
After talking about his new performance, Guillaume Canet was asked about the balance sheet of the blockbuster with a comfortable budget of 65 million euros supposed to save French cinema, Asterix and Obelix: The Middle Kingdom, which he directed. On the number of admissions deemed insufficient, 4.6 million against 6 to be profitable, the director did not skimp on words to defend the fifth cinematographic adventure of the irreducible Gaul: "No. It is by no means a failure. It has been sold worldwide and has so far made more than two million admissions internationally, with boxes in Europe, in Poland for example. We forget that before Avatar launched the movement at the end of the pandemic, few films made these figures. I am very happy with the feedback I have from people on the street, especially children," the director said forcefully.
On the sometimes harsh criticism that greeted the film, Guillaume Canet seems to have taken his side: "It's never pleasant but I can't help it. I worked for five years to achieve what I wanted to do: a great adventure show. Some like it, not others. The best ratings or reviews don't always go to the films that attract the most viewers.

Regarding the more personal diatribes, described as "Canet bashing", the actor-director did not depart from his philosophical spirit: "It hurts, obviously. But it's part of the job, we get used to it over time. I hope I make another film that appeals more to my detractors and changes their minds about my work.
