The sky is heavy with white clouds. Planted on top of the rocks, the Tudor castle, gray and massive, is an austere building. "Once upon a time there was an angry and sick king," said a voiceover, "who ruled over a corrupt kingdom." It is Princess Elizabeth, daughter of Henry VIII's second wife, Anne Boleyn, who speaks. The current Queen, Catherine Parr, is the sixth wife of the Tudor heir. Two of them were beheaded for adultery - including Elizabeth's mother - and another repudiated for her appearance. The board is planted. It is dark. Appointed regent during her military campaigns by her husband, isolated in the middle of a court that distrusts her and her reformist ideas, the young queen knows what to expect.
