The death toll of the tragedy at the Cuscatlan stadium, in San Salvador, capital of El Salvador, has risen to 12: the figure has been confirmed by the government press office. The incidents occurred when fans tried to enter one of the popular sectors of the stadium to
watch a match between Alianza and Futbolistas Asociados Santanecos (FAS).
The Salvadoran president, Nayib Bukele, assured on his Twitter account that "a thorough investigation will be conducted" into what happened. Rescue spokesman Carlos Fuentes told reporters that about 100 injured people had been transferred to different hospitals.
The president of the National Institute of Sport (INDES) and brother of the head of state, Yamil Bukele, expressed solidarity with "all the families who today lost a loved one in this sad event". Even the teams of the Salvadoran League, through social media, sent a
message of condolence. "Today colors do not exist and, for the sake of the sport that we are all passionate about, we hope that this does not happen again," the FAS wrote
