What is the lifespan of a wooden deck?
Wood brings a real cachet to your exterior and has the advantage of having a good lifespan. Of course, however, this depends on the quality of the wooden slats you choose and the maintenance you will bring to your terrace.
Thus, as long as the installation rules are respected and the frame structure is adapted, a pine wood deck has a duration of around 10 years or more. The lifespan of most exotic woods (class 4 and 5) is up to more than 40 years, if the deck is well maintained.
For example, for Scots pine blades, it is between 10 and 15 years and for larch between 20 and 30 years. The most resistant wood species are exotic woods which have a higher density (between 850 and 1050 kg/m3) and are naturally rot-proof. This is an element to take into account when choosing your wooden decking boards.
Which blade thickness to choose for good stability?
It is important to give importance to the choice of the thickness of the slats for a terrace. Indeed, a good thickness guarantees the stability of the terrace, but also its resistance to external weathering. The thickness of decking boards is governed by specific regulations: the standards in force therefore set the thickness between 19 and 41 mm As for the joists, which are used to fix the blades, the thickness must be 1 times, or 1 and a half times thicker than the blade.
It is therefore absolutely necessary to choose thick wooden slats at least 19 mm, below, abstain, the quality will not be at the rendezvous.
How to maintain your wooden deck?
Choosing to build a wooden deck requires giving it some time for maintenance. A low-pressure karcher wash once a year will keep it clean. You can also wash it with a brush with a little soap. To clean between the blades, you can use a spatula or knife.
It is not necessarily necessary to treat the quality of the wood, but you can maintain the color of your slats using a saturator to maintain the original color.
If your terrace has lost its colors, then you must use a soberer adapted to the type of wood of your blades.
