Highlights: Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said this in response to a question during his speech at the final press conference of the G7 in Hiroshima. "If we weren't so brave, the Russian genocide against us could succeed," he said. "We are grateful to the United States" for their decision on the F-16 fighters, he added. (ANSA) - HIROSHIMA, 21 MAY - "It would not be correct to make comparisons... but today I would sincerely say that the images of Hiroshima in ruins really remind me, they remind me absolutely, of Bakhmut and other similar settlements and cities, where there is nothing left, where all the buildings have been destroyed, where it is not clear where the streets and houses were, where there is total destruction, where there is nothing left, where there is no one left": Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said this in response to a question during his speech at the final press conference of the G7 in Hiroshima. "If we weren't so brave, the Russian genocide against us could succeed. Ukrainians are infinitely brave and freedom-loving," he said, adding that "even if the enemies do not use nuclear weapons, the ruins of our cities razed to the ground by Russian bombs and artillery are similar to those I saw here."
To US President Joe Biden's announcement at the G7 summit on sending another $375 million in military aid to Kiev, the Ukrainian leader replied: "An enormous gratitude from our people for the powerful financial assistance provided to Ukraine by the US, which amounts to $37 billion, as well as for a new military assistance package worth $375 million."
Zelensky then thanked Western countries for the breakthrough on F-16 fighters: "We are grateful to the United States" for their decision on the F-16" and "we have really worked for a long time at the political level with our partners to achieve this result" even if "I can't say how many F-16s there will be". As for the commitment to pilot training, he added: "When our pilots know about the F-16s and when these aircraft appear in our skies, it will matternot only for Ukraine," he said.
Visiting the memorial of the 1945 atomic bomb by Japanese colpremier Fumio Kishida, Zelensky wrote: "Hiroshima. Peace Museum. Memorial to the victims of the atomic bombing. These places are an important reminder of the need to maintain nuclear safety.
No one has the right to blackmail the world with a radiation disaster." (ANSA).
