It all started with the head of a rat in my toilet on the morning of Good Friday.

Judith Poznan "Pick Up"

All in all, the reader thinks he finds himself in a little horror novel at the beginning of the book. Scratching noises behind the bathroom tiles, a vile smell from the drain. What could it be? When Judith discovers a rat in her toilet and is abandoned shortly afterwards by her boyfriend Bruno, the chaos seems perfect.

"Aufrappeln" is an autofictional novel, a mixture of real experiences and poetry. The author told NDR in an interview that she could only write in this way. She is not an author who is capable of coming up with something like a fantasy author. Judith Poznan must have actually experienced things and then write everything down quickly at home.

When Judith enters her bathroom on the morning of Good Friday, something unexpected happens: a rat is looking at her from the toilet. The next few days don't get any better either, because out of the blue her boyfriend breaks up with her. Just a moment ago everything was fine and then all of a sudden nothing is good anymore.

Blurb / DuMont

The reader is very drawn into the story of Judith and her partner Bruno. Maybe it's this connection of experiences that everyone has gone through for themselves. A life crisis that pulls the rug out from under your feet for a moment. A book about failure. And love. As if they belonged together.

Judith Poznan "Pick Up": Conclusion

Where others sink into a deep hole after a separation, Judith Poznan succeeds in holding on to the continuation in "Aufrappeln". It is a collection of small humorous and tragicomic moments worth reading, which contain a lot of warmth and authenticity through autofictional writing.
