This mixture of class and relaxed so Hollywood blew on the Croisette this Tuesday evening. The five-star cast of Wes Anderson's new feature film, Asteroid City, in official competition, arrived almost complete in front of the Palais des Festivals. In this comedy, the American director features five gifted children who visit scientists and military personnel in Asteroid City, a fictional city in the middle of the desert famous for its meteorite crater. This stay will see unexpected events happen and turn the world upside down.
While trying for the third time to win the Palme d'Or, Wes Anderson arrived aboard a bus with his fine team composed of Tom Hanks, Scarlett Johansson (for the first time in official competition at Cannes), Bryan Cranston, Jeff Goldblum, Steve Carell, but not only. The filmmaker's faithful were also there. This is particularly the case of Jason Schwartzman or Adrien Brody. But Cannes had only for the interpreter of Black Widow, whose timeless glamour irradiated the red carpet, while the transis fans greeted him by brandishing signs "We love you Scarlett".
Cannes 2023: the climb of the steps on May 22
The dance of Rupert Friend and Maya Hawke
On the red carpet, the cast of Asteroid City radiated freshness and complicity. Rupert Friend and Maya Hawke began a little dance, while Bryan Cranston played knight servants to Rita Wilson, the wife of Tom Hanks, whose train he readjusted on the steps of the palace, then into the hall. Adrien Brody has, meanwhile, taken out his smartphone to immortalize his climb of the steps with a selfie, a practice a time prohibited by the organizers.
Moments later, the tension was palpable in the great Louis Lumière room when Scarlett Johansson was waiting. Where did the star of the evening go? Enough to perplex Wes Anderson and his team, already ready to watch the film, as well as the delegate Thierry Frémaux, caught in cold sweats. But as if by magic, the star of Lost in Translation finally reappeared to the applause of the audience, before sitting to the left of the maestro of the evening, Wes Anderson, of course. Under the eyes of delighted guests: Anaïs Demoustier, Ana Girardot, Tina Kunakey or Maye Musk.
