(ANSA) - ROME, MAY 24 - "Africa is a priority for our international action" and "the Horn of Africa, a crucial region, is affected by a series of unprecedented crises with tens of millions of people in need of emergency humanitarian aid". This was stated by Foreign Minister Antonio Tajani speaking at a UN conference for the Horn of Africa promoted by Italy and which had the consent of the USA, the United Kingdom and Qatar and the countries concerned. For humanitarian interventions and development initiatives, Italy this year will make available "40 million euros" for the UN plus another 30 million, but "we must work on initiatives with lasting effects".
"We will continue to support African aspirations for peace, stability and growth, to invest in education and job opportunities also through new industrial joint ventures - he added - Italian companies are ready.
We want to do this on the basis of an equal partnership with African countries, through shared objectives and mutual benefits". Tajani then specified that the Meloni government "is working on a new Mattei Plan as part of a broader European Marshall Plan to support key sectors, such as agro-industry, energy transition, job opportunities, cultural heritage, investments in the objectives of good governance and the rule of law of the United Nations".
