Cat owners know them all too well: tricks that cats use to manipulate their caregivers in order to achieve a goal. What this naughty cat does to get her meal is especially cute.

A pretty cat actress named Skipurr is currently fascinating on Instagram: Instagram user @jacq.attacqs.fitness's video has already received almost eight million views and almost 800,000 likes. There you can see the trick a cat uses to manipulate its owner Jacqui in order to finally get something between her teeth.

The house cat noisily simulates nibbling on the mobile phone charging cable of his human mother and does not miss any audacity to finally reach his destination. Even while the acting-gifted cat doesn't gnaw at the actual charging cable with its teeth, it still makes its owner understand it through the amazingly similar sounding smacking noise.

Cat owner asks Instagram community for opinion

Cat mom Jacqui captioned her viral video, "My cat pretends she's going to eat my phone cord (with noises and all the trimmings) if I don't get out of bed quickly to feed her." With the hint "Turn up your sound!" displayed, the astonished cat mom hopes for advice from the Instagram community: "Does someone else's cat do the same?"

Instagram users can't get their heads around the deceitful cat in the comments and report on their own pets who have similarly dramatic tricks up their sleeves:

  • "The sister is an actress, where's her Oscar?"
  • "I wonder what it's like to have a cat that just pretends to break something. 🤔"
  • "My cat licks her empty bowl loudly to arouse pity. I don't know where she learned that."
  • "They're awesome. 😄 If I sleep too long, my cat will pretend to be stuck in the shower. He goes into the shower and scratches the shower curtain from the inside, just so I can get out of bed and save him. 🥲"
  • "My cat takes a plastic bag and starts chewing on it loudly, as if he was so hungry that he would have to eat plastic to survive. I feed them literally non-stop with dry food. She always has a bowl full to eat. It's so dramatic. 😂😂😂"

With her video, Jacqui has once again proven how smart the popular pets actually are.

How intelligent are cats?

The science portal Spektrum.de lists nine exciting facts on the subject of how intelligent cats really are:

Cats are in possession of the so-called object permanence: They know that an object doesn't necessarily have to disappear just because it disappears from their field of vision.

Cats recognize physical causalities: "They are puzzled when physical rules are apparently not adhered to." During tests, it was found that cats reacted confused when, for example, a cup was shaken noisily, but nothing fell out when turned over. On the other hand, the house cats did not know what to do with objects that were suddenly there without being announced by a corresponding acoustic signal.

Cats distinguish quantities and recognize small differences in size: For example, the kitties can learn to distinguish between "two and three points."

Cats possess a social awareness: Free-roaming birds look for individuals with whom they go on forays through their territory. Such contacts arise, among other things, out of curiosity or to establish contacts. Domestic cats also maintain various social contacts with humans.

Cats understand signals from humans: Cats have accompanied humans for thousands of years. They can follow human gestures to get food. In experiments on "social referencing" (attention to humans in situations perceived as unsafe), it was found that 80 percent of cats in an unsafe situation looked to humans "to gauge their own reaction." Spektrum.de writes: "The animals also responded to the emotional reaction of their owners: If they looked frightened, the cats were more likely to move away from the fan and interact with humans." The researchers' interpretation was that the velvet paws were probably looking for security from their owners. Studies have also shown that the sensitive animals can react to human emotions: "They are less likely to seek the proximity of people who feel sad and are more likely to approach those who are in an extroverted or agitated mood."

Cats recognize human voices: Domestic cats recognize the voices of their owners. In studies, the strength of the reactions to voices was evaluated. The results showed that the animals reacted particularly strongly to the voices of their owners.

Cats communicate via meow: Adult cats manifest themselves with around 16 different sounds. It is believed that humans have an influence on the language of cats. For example, many people interpret the purr of cats as an expression of well-being, but it can also mean fear or insecurity. Cats can even change their purr "to give the vocalization a different meaning." Cute fact: "Interestingly, domestic cats and wild cats also differ in their vocalization."

Cats feel a connection with their owners: A feature that many cat owners breathe a sigh of relief if they haven't already suspected it. In various tests, it was found that the house cats sought physical contact with their owners for longer than with other people. They only ran after their owners and only played with this chosen person. If the owners were present during the examinations, "the cats were generally more willing to explore and move."

It is not known whether Skipurr got the well-deserved meal after the effective performance. What is clear, however, is that the house cats always do their best to amaze us again and again.
