Sensitive skin needs sensitive care – even when it comes to sun protection. But which cream delivers what it promises? According to the test, these sensitive sunscreens are the best.

Munich – The sun is finally here. And with it: summer feelings, a good mood and, for many, the desire to go on holiday soon. Whether within Germany, Turkey or the Balearic Islands - if you go on summer vacation, you should also think about sun protection. Especially people with sensitive skin prefer to look twice when choosing sunscreen. A test by Öko-Test has now taken a closer look at 21 sensitive sunscreens.

What is important when it comes to sensitive sunscreen?

Sunscreen for sensitive skin combines a high level of sun protection with a high level of tolerance, according to Öko-Test. To ensure that allergic skin or skin with sun allergy is also protected in summer, the products should not contain irritating substances such as alcohol or perfume. According to the providers, it is often light, non-greasy formulas that care for sensitive skin with moisturizing and skin-soothing ingredients. By the way: Sensitive sunscreen is not the same as UV protection for babies - here you have to make sure that there are no preservatives in the product.

Sensitive sunscreens in the Öko-Test: What was examined?

How well do the sun creams manage the balancing act between strong UV protection and mild care? Öko-Test examined 21 sunscreens that are advertised as "sensitive" or "for sensitive skin". Most of them had a sun protection factor (SPF) of 30, but some also had SPF 50 or 50+. The products can be bought in drugstores, (organic) supermarkets, discounters or pharmacies. Among them are six sunscreens that are certified as natural cosmetics. Sensitive sunscreens are suitable for use all over the body, but an extra product should be used for the face.

Many of the creams examined can be recommended without hesitation. It is particularly pleasing that all products do not contain questionable UV filters, which have been criticized in the past. A few of the products examined scored mediocre – two sensitive sunscreens even failed the test, with the result "poor" or "inadequate".

The test winners: These are the best sunscreens for sensitive skin

While twelve sunscreens scored "good" in the test, three of the 21 sunscreens for sensitive skin convinced the testers with a rating of "very good":
