Hirayama, from applause the antihero of Wim Wenders

(ANSA) - CANNES, MAY 25 - Hirayama is a man who has many keys, but is not rich. He works as a bathroom cleaner in Tokyo. He is the protagonist, part anti-hero and part fallen angel, of Perfect Days by Wim Wenders, a film in competition at the Cannes Film Festival and applauded at the press preview, which will arrive in cinemas with Lucky Red. About fifty years old, neat mustache, Hirayama (Koji Yakusho) seems content with his simple life. He is a methodical man, with a daily life identical to himself, torn between a passion for digital photographs of trees (which he selects and catalogs in boxes), music (he still uses vintage lemocassettes) and books, including those of William Faulkner and Patricia Highsmith, which he regularly takes to the library. As for the music, the title Perfect Days itself is a reference to the cult song by Lou Reed, because Hirayama likes pop-rock classics such as Van Morrison, Otis Redding and Patti Smith that he regularly listens to in his black van full of brooms while driving in modern Tokyo. What's going on in Perfect Days? Very little from the point of view of events, but much from the emotional point of view. The protagonist, who remembers the characters of the silent even for the few words, for a very short period, as seen in the film, hosts in his small house his teenage niece Niko exaltedly then attends a small bar where, of course, he always orders the same things. Among his regular appointments there is also the one with a public toilet where you take a long shower.
But finally, from the few encounters and his black and white dreams, it is clear that there is a long gray area in his life.
