At the Build 2023 developer conference, Microsoft unveiled many innovations focused on artificial intelligence. It is the result of the investments made by the American giant to OpenAi, the organization that develops ChatGpt and its GPT-4 model.

Windows 11

Windows will be the first platform to make the use of Artificial Intelligence central for everyone. The name given by the company to the assistant is Windows Copilot, the same suffix used in recent months to define the various "copilots" of specific applications, such as Windows 365, to exploit AI for specific tasks. Here, however, the Copilot takes on the appearance of an all-rounder support, also capable of changing system settings, setting new backgrounds, editing photos and documents, without the user having to enter the individual paths and do something. The update is expected, in an experimental version, in June.

Bing Chat

In fact, ChatGpt becomes almost Bing Chat, since anyone who accesses the chatbot from outside the Windows environment will still get information received by Microsoft's search engine. Until now, ChatGpt relied on several sources drawn online to answer users' questions while now it will focus mainly, but not exclusively, on facts and data aggregated by Bing, possibly with links for further information.

Open integrations

Microsoft announces that it will adopt the same open standard for plugins that OpenAi introduced for ChatGPT, enabling interoperability between ChatGpt and Microsoft's broad copilot offering. Developers can then use a single platform to create plugins that work in both consumer and business environments, including ChatGpt itself, Bing, Dynamics 365 Copilot, and Microsoft 365 Copilot. In addition, developers will be able to create experiences that allow people to interact with their applications, using the most natural user interface: human language.

What's new for developers

In this regard, with a preview access, developers can use the Microsoft Copilot development interface to have ChatGpt or Bing Chat "read" the data of their software. In this way, AI will be able to provide peculiar and inherent answers to certain platforms, both for individual purposes and for the needs of companies and public administrations. As Microsoft says, more than 50 partner plugins will be available to customers under the preview program, including Atlassian, Adobe, ServiceNow, Thomson Reuters, Moveworks and Mural, with thousands more to be available at a later date.
