(ANSA) - MILAN, MAY 24 - Unroll a screen as if it were a parchment. It is the futuristic prototype panel for mobile devices that Samsung presented at Sid DisplayWeek 2023 in Los Angeles, California. The peculiarity of these panels is that they can be rolled up instead of folded, to enter a smaller thickness and extend more than possible today with the "foldable" screens already on the market. Called Rollable Flex, the prototype displaymeasures, when opened, about 10 inches, starting from less than 2 inches when closed. The movement that drives the opening is represented by a motor that unfolds the panel like a parchment. In the past, the Korean company had presented types of screens that could unroll but only triple the initial size. Here, according to Samsung, the size ratio is five times the starting measurement. "Most importantly, we were able to turn a large, hard-to-transport display into a portable form factor, making it rollable," the Samsung Display division said in a press release. At the Sid 2023 conference there was also room for other prototypes. For example, Flex In & Out, a new foldable phone concept that can rotate 360 degrees, allowing you to fold the device both inwards and outwards. The company believes that this technology will make it possible to build smartphones with flexible displayslighter and thinner. Finally, Slidable Flex Duet, a panel that slides from both ends of a smartphone, thus offering greater versatility than the already innovative solutions shown at the Consumer Electronic Show in Las Vegas, last January.
