Pay plays a crucial role in choosing a profession. Unfortunately, not all jobs are equal in terms of their earning potential. In Germany, there are professions that are known to be among the lowest paid.

Berlin - The topic of salary is still a taboo subject for many. At the same time, many employees can be proud of their earnings. Whether it's through hard work, further education or years of professional experience – there are often numerous reasons why you earn as much as you earn. You don't have to be ashamed of most of them at all. But as the saying goes? Where there is light, there is also shadow. Because in addition to the best-paid industries in Germany, there are also numerous jobs that are completely underpaid.

Although the economy is thriving and the unemployment rate is low, many workers still face low salaries. There are a variety of careers in Germany, which unfortunately are among the lowest paid. The following nine jobs, for example.

Ranking shows: Systemically important jobs and services in particular are poorly paid

The evaluation platform kununu regularly compiles rankings for jobs and professions. On the basis of salary information provided by employees and former employees of companies, the average salaries in Germany can be determined, for example for the best-paid skilled trades. As mentioned, salaries are averages. Conversely, this means that in the following professions there are employees who earn more, but also employees who earn less.

According to data from kununu, the following nine jobs are among the lowest paid in Germany:

  • Florist
  • Call Center Agent
  • Kitchen assistant
  • Room Maintenance Specialist
  • Supplier
  • Hairdresser
  • Bakery-confectionery-salesman
  • Gas station employees
  • Taxi driver

What is striking about the lowest-paid jobs is that all occupational groups are systemically relevant jobs or those that have become an integral part of our everyday lives. Skilled workers are similarly poorly paid. This is what nurses, educators and the like deserve.

Just 24,100 euros a year: taxi drivers earn the worst in Germany

When it comes to the salaries of the lowest-paying jobs, many workers may have to look twice. In many industries, you can earn more even part-time, and you can also earn more money with some online jobs. With an average annual salary of 25,600 euros, the florist is still best off. However, there is not much left at the end of the month. Social security contributions and taxes are still deducted, in addition to the often high rents, costs for car or local transport and also the general cost of living. It is not possible to really save a lot here.

The situation is similar for the call center agent in Germany. With 25,300 euros per year, he is in second place in the ranking. Despite the low salary, 58 percent of employees say they are satisfied with their salary. Meanwhile, 54 percent of kitchen assistants feel that their salary is okay. In Germany, this is on average 25,200 euros.

In the ninth and last place are taxi drivers. An average of 24,100 euros can be earned here per year. The astonishing thing about it is that 68 percent are still satisfied with their salary – the highest figure in the entire ranking. The fact that money is not decisive for how happy we are in our profession has also been shown by a Harvard study. According to researchers, these professions make you particularly unhappy.
