2023-05-26T21:20:25.064Z

Highlights: Consumer magazine Öko-Test has tested 31 shower gels. The result is quite good – but not for all manufacturers. A single brand, particularly well-known and loved by consumers, fails the test. But numerous care products can convince the test laboratory. The test laboratory has no fault with 12 out of 31 gels tested. This means: Green light for every natural cosmetic shower gel that has been examined. The magazine recommends keeping the temperature as low as possible and the showering process as gentle as possible.

Öko-Test has tested 31 shower gels. The result is quite good – but not for all manufacturers. It's better to avoid this popular shower gel brand:

  • Öko-Test takes a close look at shower creams and shower gels from various manufacturers (more test reports can be found here).
  • A popular care product fails mercilessly.
  • However, some shower gels can convince Öko-Test and get the grade "very good".

Do you really want to let this care product touch your skin? In its current issue (06/2023), the consumer magazine Öko-Test tests shower gels. This time, the commissioned test laboratory is turning its attention to products that are intended for sensitive skin – or at least are labeled as such. A single brand, particularly well-known and loved by consumers, fails the test. HEIDELBERG24 presents the most important results:

Shower gels for sensitive skin: Öko-Test examines products

Öko-Test takes a close look at 31 shower gels. In the case of products that are supposed to be suitable for sensitive skin, the consumer magazine states: "Sensitive advertising is one thing above all: confusing." This is because some gels have moisturizing substances – others have questionable fragrances. The testers want to know how sensitive the care products really are. Brands such as Alverde, Weleda, Balea, Nivea or Palmolive are tested.

In the shower gels of Edeka's own brands Elkos and Joolea, the testers "detected significant levels of organohalogen compounds, among which there may be skin-irritating substances." But numerous care products can convince the test laboratory. The test laboratory has no fault with 12 out of 31 gels tested. This means: Green light for every natural cosmetic shower gel that has been examined.

Shower gel test 2023: This popular brand includes unpopular fabrics

However, a brand does not only contain liquid plastics that are harmful to the environment, but also a "problem fragrance". In the Palmolive Naturals Sensitive Shower Cream, the laboratory commissioned by Öko-Test has detected the synthetically produced musk scent Galaxoid. According to current research, there is a suspicion that this additive could disrupt the entire hormonal system.

Öko-Test tests shower gel: One trend is particularly pleasing

Other shower gels in the Öko-Test include shower gels for men, sensitive care showers, 2-in-1 shower gels for hair and skin and other cream showers.

In addition to the satisfactory results from numerous shower gel manufacturers, another factor is very pleasing. According to Öko-Test, the recycled content in the packaging material is increasing! There is room for improvement, but still. 19 of the 31 shower gel brands tested said they used over 30 percent recycled material for packaging.

Shower gel in the Öko-Test 2023: This is how the product is suitable for sensitive skin

On the occasion of the current test, Öko-Test also reveals how to make your body care in the shower as gentle as possible. First of all, the magazine recommends keeping the temperature as low as possible and the showering process as short as possible. Not only because it makes showering energy-efficient and water-saving, but also because the whole thing has a less degreasing effect and is therefore better for the skin.

Even showering only once a day is considered by Öko-Test to be quite skin-friendly. And once you're done showering, it's time to apply cream – it's important to moisturize not only your body, but especially your face. Incidentally, Öko-Test recently also tested face creams – with extremely disturbing results.

Öko-Test recommends: Apply sunscreen after the care shower!

Furthermore, it is important to protect yourself from dangerous rays after showering with sunscreen. Click here for the new eco-test about sunscreen. Of course, at the end of the day you also need a good shower gel that washes the sunscreen out of the skin. (mad)
