Icelandic curd is said to make it easier to lose weight. As a supplement to a low-carb diet, it can be helpful.
Skyr has now become the trademark of Iceland. In Germany, the quark is known everywhere and can be bought in the supermarket in many versions. Legend has it that the Vikings brought the special curd to Iceland over 1,000 years ago. It can be made from cow's and sheep's milk and is not only popular because of its creamy consistency. For many, skyr is also a companion on the way to a slimmer figure: the curd is well suited as a food for losing weight.

Unlike regular yogurt, skyr consists mainly of skimmed cow's or sheep's milk. A skyr contains about four times as much skimmed milk as a conventional yogurt. The protein content of the curd is significantly higher than that of other curd or yoghurt. According to Stiftung Warentest, there are eleven grams of protein per 100 grams of skyr for some brands.

In addition, the calcium content of the Icelandic specialty is worth mentioning. Calcium in the body is important for stable bones, which is why the health information service recommends 700 to 1,200 milligrams as a daily dose. Skyr provides 100 milligrams of calcium per 115 grams. But the most important advantage for people who want to lose weight is the fat content. Because it is 0.2 grams per 100 grams of skyr.
Skyr is particularly useful as a food on a low-carb diet
Some people have included skyr in their daily diet simply because they like it. The consistency of the curd is creamier and more stable than conventional curd. In addition, there is a slightly sour note. But it is not only the taste of the curd that increases the group of people who eat it regularly.

Its low fat content is also crucial for people who follow a low-carb diet. On a low-carb diet, practitioners try to consume as few carbohydrates as possible. Skyr is useful in that the quark:
- saturates: The high protein content ensures that blood sugar does not rise sharply due to the low glycemic index of protein and, conversely, does not drop sharply. This avoids cravings and creates a longer-term feeling of satiety.
- low in fat: People on a diet can eat quite a lot of skyr because the fat content is so low. So you don't have to worry that the curd will drive your weight up sharply.
- has a positive effect on the intestines: Skyr is a fermented food that supports intestinal health.
So the Icelandic curd can definitely help you lose weight. Of course, sufficient exercise and a healthy lifestyle are also essential if you want to lose weight in the long run.
