When it comes to money, very few people understand fun. Exception: In the net world, where many a contribution invites you to smile violently.
Munich – In the market world, lure offers are probably as old as the industry itself. Particularly popular: the volume discount. Whether in gastronomy, retail or the specialist idea dealer – the "two for the price of one" principle is common in almost all areas.
While opaque price labels for strawberries in some supermarkets have recently annoyed customers, the special offer of a local baker was clearly marked; and yet caused astonishment among one customer.
Reddit users not very enthusiastic about the offer: "Pay for your drink, then you get your drink"
The idea is simple: instead of a single product, the customer is offered a lucrative menu form. If you opt for a complete meal, the seller usually puts a side dish or a drink for free on top. If you now take two sandwiches instead of one sandwich at the bakery in question, you will receive a hot drink with it. This can be read in a picture shared by the irritated customer on the Reddit platform.
The customer doesn't seem to interpret the offer in his favor, smelling it as a rather questionable business, just like a supermarket customer with an offer for bean stew. Because: The hot drink only goes for an additional payment of 1.50 euros over the bakery counter. Bargain or rip-off? The Reddit user also questions it and cynically acknowledges the business idea with: "Buy something and pay for your drink, then you get your drink."
It is not uncommon for users to get their opinion on matters from everyday life on the platform. In another case, the Reddit community is puzzling over a rather unusual notice in the toilet. Whether it's laughter or heated verbal battles – as a rule, the contributions generate massive reactions. This is also the case in this case.
Special offer at the bakery: bargain or rip-off? Reddit community argues
While some see it as a profitable business, others are just as amused as the post creator. "If you buy 10 rolls, you get 10 rolls," writes one Reddit user. Another recreates how the business idea might have come about internally. "Boss: Write a special offer. Employees: How much discount should there be? Boss: None at all!" was the satirical remark under the post.
According to the understanding of another user, there is nothing wrong with the offer from a commercial point of view, only the wording bothers him. If, instead, the notice had said "all hot drinks € 1.50 with the purchase of 2 rolls", no one would have complained, he speculates. "Pure offer, just strangely formulated," he concluded.

Does the baker's offer on Reddit come from the "Marketing Employee of the Month"?
So it's a good deal after all? A user proceeds methodically and uses a price comparison. At his local bakery, he had to shell out 3.10 euros for a cappuccino. 1.50 euros for a hot drink is therefore a good deal. But not if customers have to assume a completely different price. "Plot twist," one of them introduces his assumption, which is certainly meant to be funny. "Drinks all cost one euro," to which another user replied dryly: "Marketing employee of the month."
Meanwhile, Lidl's marketing team in Sweden can confidently pat itself on the back for its good work: The network recently celebrated their original advertising offer; raunchy allusion included. (rku)
