Admit we missed it: Schwarzenegger made a comeback in a fiery and intense action series | Israel Hayom

2023-05-28T07:40:38.129Z

Highlights: The generic, illogical and smeared plot of the actor and former governor of California's first TV series could have been crammed into the length of a movie. Despite this, the charismatic star himself indifferently spews punches in the midst of extreme acts of violence, proving that he is still the same Schwarzenegger everyone loves. At his advanced age (75), it's pretty clear what we'll get from the overgrown Austrian: Netflix tailor-made a series for him according to his inflated size, and suddenly it's tickling to admit that we missed Schwarzenegger a bit.

Every star needs their own TV series, and every mediocre series needs some shiny star to fly it skyward. But what do you do in cases where the star is bigger than the series? What do you do when a star is named Arnold Schwarzenegger and he's bigger and more special than any character he'll play?

Well, now we're talking about Schwarzenegger's comeback to the screen. Still, the man coined the phrase "I'll be back" and suddenly he's back, even if "Povar" is actually the first TV series he's starred in (not including reality). After maximizing his Mr. World title in body care into a hysterical film career, and leveraging his two-term international superstar as governor of California, there is now nothing more natural for The Terminator to enter Netflix fashionably late.

At his advanced age (75), it's pretty clear what we'll get from the overgrown Austrian: Netflix tailor-made a series for him according to his inflated size, and suddenly it's tickling to admit that we missed Schwarzenegger a bit. Even if the story of "Povar", which could have been compressed into the length of a movie, stretches on a one-dimensional soapy plot of 8 episodes with an open ending for another season.

Schwarzenegger plays a CIA agent who hides his true identity from his family. Just before he retires, he discovers that his daughter is also employed by the intelligence agency, and that they have been forced to work together to thwart terrorists. Actually, it sounds like a father-daughter version of the 1994 movie True Lies (there's also a guest appearance by Tom Arnold, Schwarzenegger's partner in that film).

"Povar" is based on Schwarzenegger affectivity and his talent for indifferently spewing punches in the midst of extreme acts of violence. Thanks to him, the series manages not to be boring, and overcome a generic plot whose narrative progresses according to illogical moves of banal characters.

Lots of dad jokes. Schwarzenegger and Monica Barbero, who plays his daughter in Fubar, from the series,

Luckily, Schwarzenegger remains Schwarzenegger and he magnetizes viewers with the extraordinary charisma of a bodybuilder with a big heart, hot action and intense, explosions and relationships, cliffhangers, winks to popular culture or old Schwarzenegger movies, and lots of so-called "daddy jokes." It's transparent that this action comedy was written by people who mostly specialize in action and less in humor.

Arnold Schwarzenegger returned, and at the age of 75 he also made a "V" on his own television series. And even though it's been a few years since the Eighties, he's still the same Schwarzenegger everyone loves.
