Getting married abroad can be much more expensive for many couples than in Germany. That's how much marriages abroad cost.
Frankfurt – Almost 400,000 marriages were concluded in Germany in 2022. The wedding ceremony in the registry office costs 40 to 60 euros in this country – the amount varies depending on the federal state.
If marriage in Germany seems too banal for you, you can also get married abroad as a German couple. However, getting married abroad can be quite expensive.
How much does it cost to get married abroad?
The question of how much money marriages abroad cost was investigated by the financial service provider Wise. The investigation examined the cost of a civil wedding of people from Germany in the capitals of EU countries and Great Britain. The costs for this differed enormously in some cases. The reason for this is that the costs of meeting the respective requirements also played a role. This includes, among other things, the marriage certificate, processing costs and the costs for the wedding ceremony.

In some countries, there were also different price levels to choose from. The costs for the respective wedding celebration, on the other hand, were not calculated. The costs for the journey from Germany and the consequential costs of the marriage abroad were also not taken into account. As the financial services provider Wise announced, marriage is the most expensive for German citizens in Italy. In Rome, the marriage costs at least 769 euros, but can also cost up to 1469 euros.
