Urgent tofu recall: Consumer advice center fears serious consequences if consumed

Due to the danger of metal, a soy product from the manufacturer Typhoon Tofu is being recalled. The consumer advice center warns against consumption.

However, if you like to cook with the plant product, you should be careful when shopping: Because an urgent recall has been launched for a tofu product from the manufacturer Taifun-Tofu - the second within a short time.

Tofu recall: No information about possible health consequences of typhoon tofu

Tofu Spinacia – a soy product seasoned with spinach, nutmeg and garlic – is affected. As the manufacturer explains in a press release, there is a risk of metal in the tofus. "It cannot be ruled out that there are occasional metal parts in the product," says Taifun-Tofu. Consumption is therefore strongly discouraged – the consumer advice centre also warns.

Whether the consumption would have health consequences, the manufacturer, which is known for its variety of vegan products, does not write. According to the consumer advice center, frequent ingestion of metals, such as aluminum foil, can damage the kidneys and bones. In addition, it can lead to developmental disorders.

Typhoon Tofu Recall: These Products Are Affected

A total of six products are subject to the recall. Customers who have purchased the tofu can return it to the respective store for a refund of the purchase price without presenting the receipt. "Typhoon apologizes to consumers for the inconvenience caused - quality and food safety are top priorities," the Freiburg-based company said. Taifun tofu is available in all health food stores as well as in selected online stores. There, the contaminated soy products have already been removed from the range.

In addition to the recall of Typhoon tofu, other urgent recalls are underway

A major flour recall is currently underway. The product may cause drowsiness when consumed. Muesli bars from the Share brand can also be dangerous: there is a risk of internal bleeding due to glass splinters. (tt)
