Watering roses correctly – preferably in the morning

Proper watering is crucial for roses and can prevent many diseases. Here's how to do it right.

Roses are usually the star in the garden, because with their fragrant, filigree flowers and imposing growth, they transform even the most dreary corners into romantic oases. But for this, the right care is crucial. In addition to the right fertilization, it also depends on the irrigation technique and the time of day so that the pretty plants bloom profusely.

Timeless, elegant and relatively easy to care for: roses not only look good in the garden bed, they can also serve as privacy screens or transform boring house walls into castle-like facades. It is important that the location of the roses is sunny as well as open and airy, so that roses dry well after a rain shower.

In general, plants in the bed should be watered in the morning if possible. This rule of thumb applies all the more to roses, because roses are relatively susceptible to diseases. In summer, roses need water once a day. When watering, do the following:

• Water roses in the morning. This allows the plants to absorb the water throughout the day and gives the leaves time to dry until the evening.
• In principle, you should not water during the midday heat. This is because strong sunlight, together with water droplets, can cause the leaves to burn.
• Water close to the ground so that the leaves do not get wet.
• Do not use water that is particularly calcareous. Clean rainwater is ideal.
• Especially in the evening, the foliage should remain dry when watering, otherwise there is a risk of fungal diseases.

Regular pruning is also important for roses and prevents diseases from developing.
