The name of the first large cruise ship built by China was announced a few days ago in Shanghai as "Adora Magic City".
In its inaugural season, the "Adora Magic City" aims to offer a cruise experience "unique and immersive, seamlessly blending Eastern and Western cultures," it was announced.
The new ship's home port will be Shanghai, according to details released at an event held by the municipal office of culture and tourism and China State Shipbuilding Corporation Cruise Technology Development Co., Ltd. (CCTD).
Designed and built jointly by the CCTD and Shanghai Waigaoqiao Shipbuilding Co. Ltd., the cruise ship, already in the final stage of construction, is 323.6 meters long and has a gross tonnage of 135,500 tons, with a capacity to serve 5,246 passengers.

Delivery of the cruise ship is scheduled for the end of 2023, after which the ship will start a series of international routes between the homeport of Shanghai and neighboring countries that will serve as destinations.
In addition, other medium- and long-term routes will be launched to enhance cultural exchanges between China and other countries.
Adapted to the Chinese market
The Chinese project to set foot in the cruise ship construction business was started in 2013, and the following year the country signed a cooperation agreement with Carnival Corporation, Fincantieri and Lloyd's Register for the development of the industry.

The formal order for two large cruise ships of 135,000 gross tons was placed in November 2018 for a joint venture between Carnival Corporation and China State Shipbuilding Corporation (CSSC).
Both ships have the same measurements and will be powered by a 9.6 MW main diesel generator with a total power of 62.4 MW, while two 16.8 MW capsule propellers will enable a maximum speed of 22.6 knots.
In both warehouses, the amenities will beadapted to the Chinese market. They will include an entertainment area with a large performing arts center, large restaurants along with specialty restaurants, bars, cafes, shopping malls, art halls, children's centers, and spa and water areas.
"As one of the most difficult types of ships to design and build, large cruise ships are the only high-tech, high-value-added products that China has yet to conquer," CSSC said in describing the scope of the construction project.

From the Chinese corporation stressed that the number of parts and components of the large cruise ship is five times greater than that of other projects. The wiring alone, they said, reaches more than 2,600 miles (nearly 4,200 km) and the total working hours for the entire ship is equivalent to 20 times that of a Capesize bulk carrier.
China State Shipbuilding Corporation's Waigaoqiao Shipbuilding cut the first steel for the new cruise ship in October 2019 and began assembly in 2020, in a project that involved the shipyard havingto develop new facilities for each stage of the project.
