The Cinémathèque française will dedicate a major retrospective to the director of Avatar, James Cameron. With more than 300 original works on display, the exhibition titled "The Art of James Cameron" will bring together "a dazzling and diverse array of rare and never-before-seen pieces from the filmmaker's immense private collection," according to the press release.
The exhibition traces "six decades of an innovative work", through drawings, pastels, paintings or photographs, but also accessories, costumes, and 3D devices designed or adapted by Cameron himself. The route is divided into six parts: "Dreaming with your eyes wide open", "The Human Machine", "Exploring the unknown", "Titanic: going back in time", "Creatures: humans and aliens" and finally "Untamed Worlds".

From the poster artist he was in his youth to the director of Terminator, the exhibition traces the career of James Cameron. "I've always considered myself more of an illustrator at heart than an artist. I used my drawings and paintings to tell stories. And it was all a perfect workout before moving on to the art of filmmaking in my late twenties," the director explained.
This "autobiography of his art", as James Cameron calls it, will open on April 3, 2025 and close on January 5, 2025. Dates that coincide with the release of the third opus of his Avatar saga scheduled for December 2024 in cinemas.
