For the second time in its history, Italy plays the Nations League finals. After the third place of 2021, Spain is again on the road of the Azzurri (on June 15 in Enschede), while the host Netherlands faces Croatia. The preparation for the Nations League will begin on Sunday evening when the national team will gather in Rome, from where the group will then move to the 'Forte Village Resort' in S. Margherita di Pula for a period of preparation and recovery of physical and mental energies. As on the eve of the 2020 European Championship, in Sardinia the players will be together with their families and will train in the morning inside the structure, closing on Friday 9 June with a test against Cagliari's Primavera.
For the first part of this path towards the Nations League, coach Roberto Mancini has summoned 26 players: the Lazio Mattia Zaccagni and Ciro Immobile, absent respectively from June and September 2022, Alessandro Florenzi and Manuel Locatelli (absent since June 2022), while Nicolò Zaniolo (out since November 2022) is at the first call-up after the transfer from Roma to Galatasaray. First call for Lecce defender Federico Baschirotto, who had already taken part in the stage dedicated to players of national interest. The coach has also decided not to include Giorgio Scalvini and Sandro Tonali in the group, who will therefore be available to coach Paolo Nicolato in view of the final phase of the European Under-21 Championship (Georgia and Romania, 21 June-8 July), where three passes for Paris 2024 will also be up for grabs. The players of Inter and Fiorentina, engaged in the Champions League and Conference League finals, have not been considered. Monday, June 5 at 12 noon the National team will train at the 'Giulio Onesti' Olympic Preparation Center in Rome: on this occasion the Azzurri, led by the federal president Gabriele Gravina, will participate in the naming ceremony of Camp 3 to Gianluca Vialli, an initiative promoted by the president of Coni Giovanni Malagò.
The general secretary of CONI, Carlo Mornati, will also be present.
