    What are the preparations before installing a composite deck?

    If installing a composite terrace yourself in your garden or on your balcony is a task accessible to all, it requires a little preparation. In particular, you need a healthy base and therefore need to prepare your soil. A concrete slab is recommended on an earthen floor. Remember to tilt it at about 5 degrees to allow the water to drain when it rains. You can also place your composite blades directly on an earthy floor, provided you clean it well, create a small inclination and install a geotextile that will prevent grasses from growing and overflowing on your composite blade deck. Finally, take the time to measure the exact dimensions of your future deck to ensure you have enough blades and all the other necessary elements.

    How to install composite decking boards?

    Let's move on to the installation of the composite slat terrace, there are several steps to follow:

    • Do peripheral lambourding: Delimit the construction space using peripheral joists on each side of the terrace that make up your frame. When installing, respect the 15 mm expansion distances between the joists;
    • Install the interior composite joists: they support your composite decking boards. It is recommended to choose joists of the same brand as the blades so that the expansions are identical. Place each joist 40 cm from its neighbor;
    • Attach the blades: they are usually provided with clips to be attached to each other. To attach them to the joists, use a drill and screw them on. Be sure to shift them slightly from each other to obtain an aesthetic result;
    • Make peripheral finishes: for the edges of the terrace, use matching skirting boards. They will finalize your terrace, but also protect it. They can be made of wood, PVC or aluminum;
    • Clean: During installation, dust will be released, and it is important to remove it to prevent the formation of stains or mold. You can use a low-pressure jet.
