A violent battle broke out at Sri Lanka's beauty queen ceremony in New York (@colombogazette)
The feeling of missing out on second place in the competition may lead to extreme reactions, but in the next case the loser's husband took it too far and ruined the winner's big moment. With rage in his eyes and a shattered heart, the unbalanced husband of one of the contestants in the LGBTQIAP+ beauty queen contest in Brazil, took the stage, grabbed the crown of the happy winner and slammed it furiously to the floor. This was after his wife lost the title and came in a respectable second place, local news outlet Globo reported.
The stunned crowd at the Miss Gay Mato Grosso 2023 pageant shrank in place last Saturday when the husband of the first runner-up, Natalie Becker, who represented the city of Cuiabá, violently interrupted the coronation ceremony of winner Emmanueli Bellini - who represented the municipality of Varazi Grande. Just as the shimmering crown was about to settle on Bellini's head, Becker's angry husband grabbed it and threw it onto the floor of the stage, according to eye-popping footage of the moment that went viral on social media.
In the video, Miss Cuiaba's boyfriend, whose details are unknown, can be seen lifting the crown, throwing it furiously onto the stage and trying to pull Becker off the stage. He returns to grab the crown and throws it to the floor again, this time breaking it to pieces. At this point, one of the security guards approached the angry man and led him backstage.

The chaos of the beauty pageant was reminiscent of the violent brawl that broke out at Sri Lanka's beauty queen ceremony in October 2022. The contest's coordinator, Malone Hanish, who organized the Miss Gay Mato Grosso pageant, issued a statement about the outburst and insisted that the contest judges were fair in declaring Bellini the beauty queen: "The contestant's husband did not see fairness in the result and caused all this inconvenience and damage," Hanish said, "We strongly condemn the incident that occurred during the coronation of the winner, when Miss Cuiaba's spouse, Ranked second, he invaded the stage and aggressively broke the crown."
Henisch added: "We confirm the selection of the competition's jury and we share in the grief of the winner, as well as Becker, as she is not responsible for the crazy behaviour of the third party."

The statement went on to say that the competition's "legal team has been informed" about the criminal incident and that "necessary legal action" will be taken as a result of his conduct. He concluded: "The Miss Gay Mato Grosso competition team congratulates Miss Varzi Grande, Emmanuelle Bellini, who has been selected as Miss Gay Mato Grosso 2023 on the night of May 27. We reiterate our best wishes and wish you a glowing reign – and that your activities reflect the voice and desires of the LGBTQIAP+ community."
