(ANSA) - DOUVRIN, 30 MAY - It opens its doors in the north of France, in Billy-Berclau, near the historic site of PSA aDouvrin, the first European factory for the production of batteries for electric cars of Acc, a company of Stellantis, TotalEnergies and Mercedes. The inauguration will be attended by ACC CEO Yann Vincent, Stellanti CEO Carlos Tavares and President John Elkann, Minister of Enterprise and Made inItaly Adolfo Urso, French Ministers Bruno Le Maire, AgnesPannier-Runachere and Roland Lescure, French Transport Minister Volker Wissing and Mercedes CEO Ola Kallenius. "Here we are in the future, it is a great European project," commented Elkann.
The first production block will be operational at the end of 2023 with a planned gradual increase in production in 2024.
"It is the first step of a colossal project that involves the creation of two more gigafactories in Germany, in Kaiserslautern and in Italy, in Termoli, which will start production in 2025 and 2026. Today, batteries account for around 40% of the cost of an electric vehicle and are almost all produced in Asia," explains ACC CEO Vincent.
From 2030, the three European plants, which will each have a capacity of 40 GWh and about 2,000 employees, will produce a total of 2 and a half million batteries per year that will equip the electric cars of Stellantis and Mercedes. Supported by €7 billion of investment, the ACC project will help the transition to sustainable mobility with the contribution of public funds. The roadmap for Termoli has been confirmed with an investment of over 2 billion and the start of production in 2026. (ANSA).
