A vacuum cleaner roars on the carpet of a small house in Kingsbridge, southern England. Through the curtain of the window, the young retiree Harold Fry (impeccable Jim Broadbent who we saw in Harry Potter and The Duke) observes his neighbor gardening. A silent boredom reigns over the household. A red Royal Mail car stops and delivers the mail. A letter is addressed to Harold. The hero opens it and discovers that it is a farewell note sent by a certain Queenie.
Sometimes a simple letter can change an individual's fate. This is one of them. Distraught, Harold Fry comes out of his pavilion and announces to his wife, Maureen (Penelope Wilton), that he is going to walk to post his answer to Queenie. Yet, once in front of the mailbox, he inexplicably changes his mind. And continues his walk. In his head, Harold made his choice. He will cross England for 800 km to go and say what is on his heart to this Queenie who announced to him ...
