Role models and highlights: New book about the cult band Roxette is published

Alex Gernandt, long-time editor-in-chief of Bravo, now traces his world career in the book. The book details the career of the pop duo and it is also shown what music the two musicians liked to listen to privately. The Beatles, Neil Young, Joni Mitchell and Elton John were their musical idols.



Marie Fredriksson was the voice of Roxette. On May 30, she would have turned 65 years old. Shortly thereafter, a new book about the band will be published.

Three and a half years ago, singer Marie Fredriksson died after a serious illness. With Per Gessle, she had a worldwide career as Roxette: more than 80 million records sold, ten albums and number one in 20 countries with "It Must Have Been Love". Now a new book about the cult band is being published.

Alex Gernandt, long-time editor-in-chief of Bravo, now traces his world career in the new book. "Roxette – Misunderstandings and Other Truths" (promotional link) will be released this Wednesday, one day after Fredriksson would have turned 65. She passed away three and a half years ago after a serious illness, and Roxette's voice fell silent.

Gernandt, who has already written books about Michael Jackson, Bon Jovi and AC/DC from the same series, told the German Press Agency in Munich: "In the book I describe much of what I have experienced in three decades as a reporter with Roxette. Highlights include joint trips to Beijing and Moscow in 1995, as well as visits to their homes in Halmstad and Stockholm."

In his book, he mentions that the Beatles, Neil Young, Joni Mitchell and Elton John were among their musical idols. In addition, he notes that in England, the country of origin of pop, the Swedes had an impressive 19 top ten hits, but did not reach a single number one.
