ROME - As many as 68 million tourists, almost 267 million overnight stays expected in summer 2023, with a growth of 4.3% and 3.2% respectively compared to the same period of 2022, marked 65.2 million arrivals and 258 million overnight stays. Positive effect also on tourism spending: estimated at around 46 billion euros, with a growth of 5.4% compared to 2022. It emerges from the forecast note of Demoskopika that ANSA publishes in preview. Comforting scenario on the incoming: 35.3 million foreigners choose Italy, equal to just over half (51.7%) of the total number of expected arrivals with 131.5 million presences.
In addition, the historical analysis of tourist flows shows that the period June-September 2023 should be characterized by the highest number of arrivals both compared to the pre-pandemic period of 2019 (+3.7% of arrivals and + 2.6% of presences) and even since 2000 (+71.9% of arrivals and + 26.2% of presences).
The forecasts for Emilia Romagna are encouraging, despite the flood emergency, with repercussions, to date, difficult to quantify. In particular, the Emilia-Romagna tourism system is among the top ten Italian regional destinations for an increase in arrivals in 2023: 6.3 million compared to 6.1 million in 2022, recording a growth of 4 percent. The increase in presences on the regional territory is also significant, equal to almost 500 thousand nights more than in the 12 months of last year. Finally, tourism spending is also good, with an estimate of 3.7 billion euros, equal to a leap forward of 6.2 percentage points for the summer of the current year alone.
"Our forecasts for the upcoming summer season confirm the annual trend estimates released in recent months. Net of scenarios included in the expected margins of error, the highest value, since 2000, of both arrivals and presences could be recorded", explains the president of Demoskopika, Raffaele Rio.
