ROME, - 75% of those under 35 habitually consume plant-based products and consider them sustainable. This is what emerges from an analysis conducted by the Plant-Based Products Group of Unione Italiana Food carried out with AstraRicerche on the occasion of World Environment Day scheduled for June 5th. The study also records that for 65%, plant-based is a well-established phenomenon and not just a passing fad.
It is reported by analysts that young people under 35 consume plant-based products over 2-3 times a week and over 6 out of 10 of young people (66.5%) consider them a "help for the Planet". In general, almost 1 in 2 Italians (47%) think that plant-based products have one of the lowest ecological footprints in the food world and contribute to reducing CO2 emissions and the use of soil, water and energy.
The growing attention - comments the sociologist Mauro Ferraresi - towards the protection of the planet is a clear sign of the commitment of the new generations in promoting a responsible lifestyle. This commitment is reflected in consumption choices, even at the table. This is thanks to greater information on environmental issues and openness to innovation and to follow new trends, including food trends". "In Italy - says Ludovica Principato, aggregate professor in Sustainable Business Management - the adoption of a diet richer in foods of plant origin would result in halving greenhouse gas emissions, a decrease of up to 40% in biodiversity loss and water savings equal to 3.6 million Olympic swimming pools. And young people show that they have great sensitivity to these topics".
